Janie Barnes Lohr

January 9, 1924 — April 22, 2015

Janie Barnes Lohr, 91, of Wall Street, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Hinkle Hospice House. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robin Keating officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 12:45 to 1:45. Mrs. Lohr was born January 3, 1924, in Davidson County, to Joseph Pink Barnes and Carrie Shoaf Barnes. She was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ; a graduate of Lexington High School class of 1942 and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing class of 1946. After 31 years of public health nursing with Davidson County she retired and became involved in volunteering. In 1993 she was awarded the Governor’s award for volunteer service. This was for much time spent at Centerclair Nursing Home. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Foil Alexander Lohr; a sister Freeda Beck; brothers, Murphy, Edwin, Beamer, and the Rev. Junie Barnes; and her twin brother, Dr. Joseph Alger Barnes. Surviving are daughters, Phyllis Ann Rabon and husband Donald of Hendersonville and Martha Jane Wilson and husband William of Lynch Station, Va.; a special sister-in-law, Maxine Lohr of Lexington. Memorials may be made to the First United Church of Christ 104 East Center Street, Lexington, NC 27292.
