Jason Eric Smith, 32, of Palmer Road, died Thursday afternoon, April 6, 2006, at Grace Hospital in Morganton from injuries sustained in a truck wreck. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, by the Rev. Kenneth Marshburn and Matthew Drake. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Smith was born Jan. 9, 1974, in Davidson County to Russell Varner and Sherry Ann Chavis Varner. He was a member of Landmark Holiness Church, graduated from Central Davidson High School, held a computer science degree from Rockingham Community College, graduated from Davidson Community College Truck Driving School and was a former member of the Southmont Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lynn Earl Chavis and Delores Lowery Chavis, and an uncle, Lynn R. Chavis. Surviving are his three daughters, Caroline Smith and Gabrielle Smith, both of Lexington, and Alania Erica Jean Smith of Lenoir; his parents of Lexington; his fiancee, Jeniene Nicholson-Smith of Lenoir; four uncles, Jerry Chavis and his wife, Kathy, Gary Chavis, Tony Ray Chavis and his wife, Judy, and Evander Chavis and his fiancee, Sandra McCoy, all of Lexington; one aunt, Anntoinette Sellers of Lexington; and eight cousins, Natasha Chavis of Raleigh, Jerry Lee Chavis of Lexington, Mickey Chavis, Michael Chavis of Fayetteville, Eric Chavis of Monterey, Calif., and Angela, Amy and Amanda Chavis, all of Cleveland, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of his mother on Palmer Road.
