Jasper Winford Morgan

Jasper Winford Morgan, 95, of Carolina House, formerly of Hillside Drive, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2014. A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Second Reformed United Church of Christ by the Rev. Dr. William B. Shrout Jr. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service in the church parlor. Jasper was born in Davidson County on May 25, 1919, to John Marion and Texie Mae Gallimore Morgan. He worked as a supervisor for many years with Erlanger Mills and Hanes Knitting. After retiring from Hanes Knitting, Jasper embarked on a second career as a commercial broker where he worked 24 years for National Gallery of Homes and later for Coldwell Banker before his retirement. In 1999, at the age of 80, he was named Realtor of Year by Lexington/Davidson County Association of Realtors. Jasper also served on numerous committees for the Lexington/Davidson County Association of Realtors,and was a graduate of the Realtors Institute (GRI) and a certified appraiser. He was active in the community as a member of Central Carolina Civitans and a former member of the Lexington Lions Club. He was a member of Second Reformed United Church of Christ, where he was an elder emeritus, taught Sunday school and was a choir member for 65 years. Jasper was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Glider Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division, serving his country during World War II in the European Theatre, where he was a member of the Honor Guard in Berlin. He was a member of VFW Post 3074 and AMVETS Post 13. Jasper loved his family, church and work. He loved times spent fishing in his boat at High Rock Lake, especially with his grandsons, Jay and Brian. He was an avid photographer, taking photographs of the lake and events around the church. He loved his work in real estate and was quick to help his fellow brokers. He was always known to be patient, friendly, considerate, compassionate and caring for his fellow man. He was preceded in death by wife Ava Lax Morgan in 2008; parents; sisters Lorena Medlin, Evelyn Swink, Bernice Love and Etrulia Melvin; and brothers Otis, Clarence, Charlie and Carroll Morgan. Surviving are his daughter, Rhonda Wilkerson and husband Joe of Raleigh; two grandsons, Brian Wilkerson (Stacia Simpson) and Jay Wilkerson (Katherine Britt), all of Raleigh; two great-grandchildren, Henry and George Wilkerson; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to Second Reformed United Church of Christ, 330 N. Church St., Lexington, NC 27292.
