Mr. John Byron “J.B.” Lopp, Jr, 88, of Quail Ridge Court, died Friday, December 1, at Lexington Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm Wednesday, December 6 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Dr. Ray Howell III. A private burial will be held at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
Mr. Lopp was born January 4, 1935 in Davidson County to John Byron Lopp and Dorothy Lee Myers Lopp. He was a graduate of Lexington High School and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Sigma Chi. After serving in the US Army, he began his banking career in Lexington and retired as the President of Davidson Federal Bank, later BB&T. J.B. was active in his community and served as a director of many organizations, including United Way, Lexington Board of Realtors, Lexington Memorial Hospital, Kiwanis, and the NC League of Saving Institutions. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fellowship and friends at his beloved Wildcat Mountain and at High Rock Lake.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Wilkinson Lopp of the home; his son, John Byron Lopp III of Lexington; his daughter, Julie Lopp Proctor (Tad) of Lexington; his sister, Dorothy McCullough of Jupiter, FL; his brother, William “Bill” Lopp of Thomasville; his grandchildren, Brandon Proctor of Banner Elk, Jordan Proctor and fiancée, Katie London, of Lexington, Julianna Lopp of New York City, Kendyl Lopp of Greenville, NC, and John Byron Lopp IV of Huntersville; and his great-grandchild, Arianna Proctor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to charity of the donor’s choice.
