Jean Myers Reid Bowen, 79, of Country Club Boulevard, Lexington, passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, after several months of declining health.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at First Baptist Church of Lexington, where she was a member, with the Dr. Ray Howell III and the Rev. Ray Nance Howell IV officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Mrs. Bowen was born on May 30, 1928, in Iredell County to Robert L. Reid and Ida Myers Reid. After graduating from Harmony High School and attending Mitchell College, she later graduated from Catawba College in Salisbury. She moved to Lexington in 1949 to accept a teaching position with Lexington Senior High School, where she taught for 31 years. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, an avid reader and enjoyed watching the sunset at the beach. She always had a hug and a kind word for her many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Ralph, Flake and Clarence Reid; and three sisters, Ina Long, Ruth Kiker and Ethel Jennings.
Surviving are her husband, Harold Bowen of 56 years; a sister, Edith Trausneck of Charlotte; and many special nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her extended family, Freddie and Betty McMahan.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel and at other times at the home on County Club Boulevard.
