Jean Houghtaling Cope, 75, of Tyro School Road, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.
Mrs. Cope was born April 20, 1930, in Mahaska County, Iowa, to Ralph Earl Houghtaling and Hazel Mary Beal Houghtaling. She was a dietitian and taught in Indiana and North Carolina. She received her doctorate in nutrition from VPI in 1982 and was an avid gardener, loved reading and stock car racing and was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Ann Fanning.
Surviving are her husband, Travis Cope; two sons, Ben Barnes of Bethel, Alaska, and Mitch Cope of Lexington; two daughters, Pamela Harnack of Lone Tree, Iowa, and Julia Stickel of Carrboro; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bob Houghtaling of Greenfield, Iowa.
The family will receive friends at their home.
