Jean Hedrick McKoin, of Piedmont Crossing died March 12, 2014, at the nursing home after years of declining health.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Holly Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. William Sowers officiating. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Mrs. McKoin was born December 14, 1924, in Davidson County, to Ed and Minnie Hedrick. She was married to Charles C. McKoin Jr. on June 21, 1944. She was a housewife who was active in her church and community. Mrs. McKoin was a volunteer for the hospital, Red Cross, and Cub Scouts in Thomasville and Atlanta. Mrs. McKoin was raised in the Reformed United Church of Christ and was a member of First Baptist Church in Thomasville and Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga. She supported missionaries, wild life rescue work and she was an avid gardener. She had worked at Mills Home and Sears before becoming a stay at home mom. She loved to travel, make clothes and work jigsaw puzzles and restore antique cars especially the 1919 Model T. Mrs. McKoin loved her children, grandchild and other family members. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; son, Clay McKoin; and brother, Kenneth Hedrick.
Surviving are her daughter, Ruanne McKoin Culler and husband Terry of Lexington; and granddaughter, Katie Culler of Lexington.
