Jean Nelson Plyler, 79, of City Lake Road, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at Chesapeake General Hospital in Chesapeake, Va., after a critical illness of one week. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, by Edsel Gordon. Mr. Plyler was born in Lancaster County, S.C., Tabernacle community, to Bundy Braxton Plyler and Flonnie Emma Funderburk Plyler. A graduate of Clemson University, he served during the Korean War with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a former manager of the National Hotel in New York City, former manager of The Dutch Club in Lexington and retired as safety engineer with Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance Co. after 30 years. After retirement he was a partner with his son in Davidson County Screen Printing. He was a member and past president of the Welcome Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy Jean Gordon Plyler, on Nov. 2, 1996; two brothers, Conrad A. and Rom Horace Plyler; and a sister, Edith Plyler Clyburn. Surviving are one son, Gordon Plyler and his wife, Dawn, of Lexington; two grandchildren, Hannah and Adam Plyler; one great-grandchild, Wynter Plyler; one brother, Carl Dixon Plyler Sr. of Seneca, S.C.; five nephews and six nieces. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of his son at 130 American Way.
