Jeanette Swicegood Russell, 86, of Matthews, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center after a brief illness.
Jeanette Cornelia Swicegood was born in Lexington, NC, on September 27, 1939. She graduated from Cristobal High School in the Panama Canal Zone. She obtained a BS degree in nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University. She was a Registered Nurse and Nurse educator at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Hattiesburg, MS, Dalton Junior College in Dalton, GA., and Davidson Community College. Jeanette joined the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salisbury, NC and worked as an administrator performing quality assurance and utilization review until her retirement in 1997.
Jeanette’s husband, Charles Edmond Russell, Sr., preceded her in death in June 2006. She is survived by her son Charles Edmond Russell, Jr. and his wife Aimee Katherine Russell and two grandchildren Katherine Elizabeth Russell (Katie Beth) and Charles Edmond Russell, III (Case). She is also survived by two nephews Jack Burke, III and Allen Burke.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Allen C. and Clara B. Swicegood; her twin sister, Janet Swicegood Burke; and her younger brother, Anthony Craig Swicegood.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, January 30, 2025 at Forest Hill Memorial Park, where she will be buried next to her beloved husband, Charles. Reverend Angela Powell of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Tyro, NC, will lead the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
