Jeanne Williamson Wall

August 14, 1926 — January 24, 2024

Jeanne Gray Williamson Wall parred her final round on this earth on January 24, at the age of 97.  She died at Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville, where she had lived for almost 10 years, the past 3 in memory care.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, February 15, 2024 at First Baptist Church, 201 W. Third Avenue, Lexington, NC with Dr. Ray Howell, III and Rev. Robert Symanski officiating. The family will greet friends and family in the fellowship hall following the service. Burial will be private.

Jeanne was born in Aurora, Illinois to John Grady Williamson and Audrey Stone Williamson, both natives of Davidson County.  They returned to live in Winston-Salem when Jeanne was 9 years old, then later moved to Lexington.  After attending Lexington High School, Jeanne graduated with honors from Greensboro College in 1947, where she served as President of Student Government her senior year.

She loved her family and friends, and kept busy in volunteering and in service to others.  She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lexington as a Girls’ Auxiliary Leader for 16 years, President of the WMU, longtime adult Sunday School teacher, and member of the adult handbell choir.  She was honored to serve as a Deacon from 2011-2014.  One of her greatest joys at the church was working with others to create the David Hoke Coon, Jr. Church History Room, which was dedicated in 2006.

Jeanne’s many community activities included membership in the Lexington Charity League, the O’Henry Study Club and founding member of the Benjamin Merrill Chapter USDAR.  Her great love of reading kept her active in Friends of the Lexington Library.  She enjoyed working with Davidson Medical Ministries and delivering Meals on Wheels.

A great love of her life was the game of golf.  Jeanne – along with husband Fletcher H Wall, Jr – were charter members of Sapona Country Club.  She was an active avid golfer, winning the Lexington City Women’s Championship for many years and multiple championships at Sapona.  She was involved in area women’s golfing associations and served as president of both the Central Carolina WGA and the Triad WGA.  She and Fletcher – an accomplished golfer in his own right – played together as a team, winning tournament championships in Bermuda, Europe, Canada and the United States.

Jeanne was a devoted fan of Duke University.  She developed great fanaticism for her Blue Devils, which started when her husband was a member of both the Duke Football and Golf Teams in the late 1940’s.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her younger brother John Grady Williamson, Jr., when he was a child, and her eldest daughter Lyndee Wall Harrell.

Left to continue the rounds is her daughter, Elise (Lissy) Davison Wall of Raleigh.

JeJe to her grandchildren, she is survived by grandson Drew Harrell (Andrea) of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter Gray Harrell Worthington (Dean) and great-granddaughter Lyndee, all of Kinston, NC.; and the family of her late son-in-law, Jack Harrell.

Lissy would like to extend her deep appreciation to the staff of Hospice of Davidson County, and heartfelt thanks to the staff, administrators and especially the caregivers of Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville for the love and compassionate care given to her mother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: First Baptist Church, Lexington; Davidson Medical Ministries; or an organization of your choice.
