The Rev. Jefferson Werlie “Jeff” Helms, 70, of Long Branch Trail, died Saturday at High Point Regional Hospital after a serious illness of two weeks.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Gospel Lighthouse Church, 453 Concordia Church Road, China Grove by the Revs. Joel Ervin, Doug McGee, Roger Bostic and Joel Spry. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park in Lexington.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Rev. Helms was born November 8, 1940 in Iredell County to Anderson Jefferson Helms and Florence Helms. He was the owner/operator of A1 Mobile Home Supply and A1 Pest Control. He was a member and the former minister of Gospel Lighthouse Church in China Grove. He was a graduate of Mt. Vernon Bible College in Mt. Vernon, OH. He was also a member of the Lexington Memorial Lodge 473, and the Scottish Rite, Oasis Shrine Temple in Charlotte. His sons, Johnny Eugene Young, and Tracy Lynn Young, preceded him in death, as well as his sisters, Elama Cosbeos and Mary Lipe.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Hegler Helms of the home, his son, Jeff Helms of Lexington; his daughter, Cheryl Laxton of Lexington; his sisters, Ruth Bass, and husband, Paul, and Catherine White, both of Mooresville; his grandchildren, Brian Laxton, Mack Walker, and Scout Walker; several nieces and nephews; and his dogs, Sam and Little Buddy.
