Jefferson Davis, 88, of Mt. Carmel Church Road, Lexington, died Saturday at North Carolina State Veterans home in Salisbury, NC
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Forest Hill Memorial Park with military rites by VFW Post 3074.
Mr. Davis was born November 23, 1919 in Marion, SC to Robert Benjamin Davis and Edith Mae Goude Davis. He was retired from Dixie Furniture Co. and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a veteran having served in the US Army during WWII, and was a life member of VFW Post 3074, a life member of American Legion Post 8, a member of Amvets Post 13 and a life member of DAV. He is preceded in death by his first wife; Bertha M. Watkins Davis who died in 1970 a son, Sonny Davis, a granddaughter, Dawn Calhoun, and brothers Marvin A. Davis, and Francis Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Rummage Davis, of the home, his son, James F. Davis and wife Patty, of Linwood, and a daughter, Jean D. Myers and husband Larry, of Lexington; his brother, Robert Alton Davis of Cheraw, SC; his sisters, Juanita Davis West, of Dunn, NC; Barbara Ella Yarbrough, of Mt. Airy, NC; his grandson, Terry E. Myers, his two great grandchildren, Sunny and Sophia Calhoun; four step great grandchildren, Joshua, Kyle, Ethan, Kailyn Rummage.
There will be no formal visitation, but the family will be seeing friends at their respective homes.
