Jerry Coite Barnette

Jerry Coite Barnette 74 passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Grassy Knob Baptist Church in Union Grove, NC with Rev. Willie Rash and Rev. Carroll Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Jerry was born in Iredell County on May 8, 1941 to Edmond Coite Barnette and Virgie Rash Barnette. He was employed as a diesel mechanic at Carolina Garage for seven years, then, transitioned to A.T. Williams/Wilco. During his 42-year employment, Jerry began as a diesel mechanic, rising to Fleet Service Manager. Jerry coordinated fleet service for seven states and thousands of pieces of equipment, retiring in 2012. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, who enjoyed being the seventh generation to “farm” on family property. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ellen Johnson Barnette, and brother-in-law Alex Alexander. Surviving are his daughter Elizabeth Barnette of the home, son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cathy McCurry Barnette of Winston-Salem, sister and brother-in-law, “Vann” and Jack Mayberry of Olin, sister Carolyn Alexander of Sunbury, GA, and David Barnette of Union Grove. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is assisting the family.
