Jerry Mock Koontz

Jerry Mock Koontz, 77, of Sowers Rd., Linwood passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at his home after 4 years of declining health. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Smith Grove Baptist Church with Revs. Terry Smith and Mark Blair and officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Mr. Koontz was born April 19, 1938 in Davidson County to Swada Liberty Koontz and Mildred Quillman Koontz. He was a retired employee of Tube Tex. Jerry was a long time member of Smith Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and on the Cemetery Committee. Preceding him in death was his parents and a brother, Franklin Koontz and daughter-in-law, DaFin Koontz. Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy Smith Koontz of the home; a son, Wayne Koontz of Churchland; a daughter, Debbie Koontz of Churchland; four grandchildren, Jami Barbee(Andy), Josh Koontz, Derek Craver, Brandon Craver; five great grandchildren, Austin Barbee, Ashtyn Barbee, Ella Barbee, River Koontz, Danna Koontz; a brother, L.V. Koontz of Rockingham, NC and a sister, Yvonne French of Lexington, KY. Memorials may be directed to Smith Grove Baptist Church, 3462 Sowers Rd., Linwood, NC 27299.
