Jerry Wood Leonard

August 3, 1941 — January 29, 2009

Jerry Wood Leonard, 67 of Hwy 47, Lexington died Thursday January 29, 2009 at his home after an extended illness. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday at Becks Lutheran Church with Revs. Ray and Ruth Ann Sipe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery Mr. Leonard was born August 3, 1941 to Robert Lee Leonard and Emma Wood Leonard. He was former owner and operator of Chair City Tire Company in Thomasville, a supervisor with Sealy Mattress and worked at Woodmark. He also served his country in the US Army. He was preceded in death by brothers, Jessie Leonard; Dallas Leonard, Virgil Leonard, Marshall Leonard and Reitzel Leonard; and sisters, Marie Leonard Medlin, Virginia Leonard McFarland, Colleen Leonard Whitehead, Geraldine Leonard Drawdy and Emma Lee Leonard Spry. Surviving are his wife Martha Yount Leonard of the home; daughter, Lisa Leonard Fowler and husband, Randy, of Lexington; sons Greg Leonard and wife Sandra and special adopted son Joseph “Joey” Salinas and wife, Sherri, all of Lexington; Grandchildren, Fallon Owens, Chelsea Leonard, Ethan Leonard, Rachel Salinas and Jackson Salinas; brothers Curtis E. Leonard and Bob Leonard both of Lexington; and sister Wilhelmina Fischer and husband Homer of Martinez, GA. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 PM Saturday prior to the service at Becks Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall and at other times at the home on Hwy 47.
