Jesse (Bill) Wright

December 22, 1924 — April 2, 2015

Mrs. Jesse Gordon (Bill) Wright, 90, formerly of Quail Ridge Court, Lexington, died Thursday, April 2 at Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Saturday, April 4 at First United Methodist Church by the Revs. Jamie Armstrong and Doug Rowe. A private inurnment will be held in the Church Columbarium. The family will see friends in the Church Fellowship Hall following the service. Mrs. Wright was born December 22, 1924 in Davidson County to James Lindsay Gordon and Adelaide Hargrave Gordon. She was a graduate of Duke University. Her passion was education and was exhibited through her many years of teaching English at North Davidson High School and Sunday School at First United Methodist Church. She was also instrumental in founding the Mamie Weaver Preaching Mission at First Methodist. She had served on the Lexington City School Board and was a member of the Charity League of Lexington and the Sorosis Book Club. Her husband, William Smith Wright, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Mary Gordon Holland and husband, Stamey, of Statesville; her son, Dr. J. Gordon Wright and wife, Nancy of Lexington; her daughter, Kendall Wright Sharpe and husband, Steve of Lexington; her grandchildren, Amy Wright Hill and husband, Mark; Jacqueline Wright Schechter and husband, Drew; Christopher Harriss Sharpe and wife, Dr. Jessica Sharpe; and William Bynum Sharpe and wife, Jennifer; and seven great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wright Scholarship Fund at First United Methodist Church, 310 S. Main Street, Lexington NC 27292 or to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington NC 27292.
