Jesse Brownlowe Smith, age 94, of Old Concord Rd., Salisbury, formerly of Junior Order Home, died Tuesday, January 17, 2012 in Hinkle Hospice House.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Coggins Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Revs. Randy Hall and Lewis Johns officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 pm on Thursday at the church, just prior to the service and other times at the home.
Mr. Smith was born May 17, 1917 in Knox County, Tennessee to Guy Victor Smith and Zella Garrett Smith. He was a retired employee of Proctor Schartz. Mr. Smith served in the US Army during World War II and was a member of Lexington Memorial Lodge 473, the Scottish Rite Oasis Shrine, both of Charlotte; Lexington Chapter 98 order of Eastern Star and White Shrine.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Opal Lopp Smith of the home; two sons, Charles Ernest Smith, William Avery Smith, both of Lexington; a brother, Charles Victor Smith of Knoxville, TN; and a sister, Bonnie McCollum of TN.
