Willie James (Jim) Grubb, 89 of Turner Rd. Lexington, died Saturday at 11:12 PM in Thomasville Medical Center after an illness of one week. A funeral service will be 4:00 PM Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel with the Revs. Arnold Lewinger and Butch Conrad. Burial will follow at New Friendship United Church of Christ.
Mr. Grubb was born in Davidson County on September 9, 1919 to Jacob L. Grubb, Sr. and Rosa Long Grubb. He was retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries and a charter member of New Friendship United Church of Christ where he served as Choir Director for more than 50 years, was a member of the Brotherhood and Consistory and was a member of Gideon’s International. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Edna Arline Black Grubb, brothers, Jacob L. Grubb and John L. Grubb and sisters, Bessie Clark and Frances Younts.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita Grubb of the home; sons James A. Grubb and wife Carolyn and Lonnie F. Grubb and wife Opal both of Lexington; daughter, Rev. June Grubb of Lexington; stepson, Junior Poole of Lexington; stepdaughters, Nancy Wood and Kathy Barlow both of Welcome; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Garner of Lexington.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his son, James Grubb, 1727 East Holly Grove Rd., Lexington.
