James O. “Jimmy” Briggs, 73, of NC Hwy 8, died Tuesday at his home after declining health.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 17 at Stoners Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, officiated by the Revs. Billy Pearson and Bill Hicks. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Mr. Briggs was born September 30, 1934 in Davidson County to Bruce Briggs and Elsie Smith Briggs. He retired from Burlington Industries after 21 years, later worked for Winston Salem Southbound Railways for 11 years, and served as manager of Cook’s Barbecue for twenty years. He was also a charter member of the Southmont Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Smith Briggs.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Biesecker Briggs of Mt. Vista Nursing Center; his daughter, Cindi Rathbone and husband, Greg, of Stokesdale; his sons: Scott Briggs and wife, Amy, and Phil Briggs and wife, Kim, both of Lexington; his sisters: Rachel Tuttle of Lexington and Hollis Trexler, of Welcome; and his grandchildren: Zack Briggs, Skyler Briggs, Caleb Briggs, and Leigha Briggs.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
