James "Jimmy" Edward Davis Sr., 71, of Oakdale Lane, died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at his home after a one year illness.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Arrington Heights Freewill Baptist Church by the Revs. Bradley Testerman and Doug McGee. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of the son, Brian Davis.
Jimmy was born on Dec. 30, 1940, in Guilford County to Troy Lee Davis and Lettie Mae Langley Davis. He was a retired chemical operator with National Starch Chemical Co., and a member of Arrington Heights Freewill Baptist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Cindy Ray; and two brothers, George Davis and Garland Davis.
Surviving are his wife, Maureen Buchanan Davis, of the home; three sons, Jimmy Davis Jr., Allen Davis, Brian Davis and wife Misty, all of Lexington; a daughter, Sherry Freeman and husband Randy of Lexington; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Vanza Patterson and husband Frank of Lexington.
