Jimmy Lee Ely, Sr.

Jimmy Lee Ely, Sr., age 75, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2023. He was born on July 22, 1948, in Lee County, Virginia, to the late George and Hazel Ely.

Jimmy served his country with honor in the United States Army and, upon returning home, dedicated many years of his life as an operator for RJR Tobacco. His commitment and hard work culminated in a well-deserved retirement from the company. Jimmy served as Commander of Welcome Amvets 760 for 40 years and also served as Amvets State Commander.  Jimmy was proud of this accomplishment and served veterans in many capacities during this time.

He is preceded in death by his parents, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy that will be forever remembered.

Jimmy is survived by his devoted wife, Dreama Hopkins Ely, of the home. He is also survived by his loving children: Jimmy Lee Ely, Jr. (Lisa), Terry Paul Ely (Heather), Vicky Ratliff Johnson (Jimmy), and Lisa Ratliff Johnson (Gray Jr.).  He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Briana (Jonathan), Danielle (Dale), Austin, Raylen, and Brittany, as well as his great-grandchildren, Hudson, Jaylee, Eli, and Isaac.

A funeral service to celebrate Jimmy's life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel with Preacher Shane Hayes officiating.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.

Following the service, entombment will take place at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum, marking Jimmy's final resting place.

The Ely family appreciates the support and kindness during this difficult time and invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring the life of Jimmy Lee Ely, Sr.
