Jimmy Franklin Hanes, 72, of Eller Road, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem after a lengthy illness. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Midway United Methodist Church, where he was a member, by the Rev. John Woods Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Hanes was born Jan. 29, 1934, in Davidson County to John Herman Hanes Sr. and Hazel Walser Hanes. He was owner/operator of J.F. Hanes Paving Co. He served in the U.S. Marines and was a former member of Midway Lions Club and a director for Davidson Water Co. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, J.H. Hanes Jr. and Roy Hanes. Surviving are his mother of Reedy Creek; his wife, Joanne Hanes of the home; three daughters, Ginger Davis and her husband, Mark, of Lewisville, Tracey Hanes of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Heather Hanes of the home; three grandchildren, Holly Davis, Whitney Davis and Emily Davis, all of Lewisville; one brother, William V. Hanes and his wife, Sylvia, of Reeds; one sister, Virginia Weisner of Reedy Creek; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel. Memorials may be directed to Midway United Methodist Church Building Fund, 9795 Old U.S. Highway 52 South, Lexington, NC 27295. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness." 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
