Mr. Jimmy Carlton Swicegood, age 69 of Clay Street (Churchland Community) Linwood, NC died Wednesday, April 23 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 26 at Churchland Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Ray Nance Howell, IV and Rev. David With. Inurnment will follow in the Churchland Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Swicegood was born January 19, 1939 in Davidson County to William Glenn Swicegood and Pauline Young Swicegood. He was a graduate of Churchland High School and attended Catawba College. He was a member of Churchland Baptist Church where he had served on numerous committees. Mr. Swicegood was an automobile mechanic and was retired co-owner and operator of Fitzgerald Garage in Churchland. He was a member and former officer of the Independent Garage Owners (IGO) where he had been given an honorary life membership. He was a volunteer fireman with the Churchland Volunteer Fire Department for 43 years and served as Chief of the Department for 20 years . Jimmy had been named “Fireman of the Year” three times in his career. He was a former member of the Churchland Lions Club and was a veteran of the North Carolina National Guard. He was a member of the Morgan Hunt Club. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald Lynn Swicegood and Billy Swicegood. Mr. Swicegood is survived by his wife, Joyce Fitzgerald Swicegood of the home. A son, Mitch Swicegood and wife Elizabeth of Churchland; a daughter Lisa Fisher and husband Bill of White Lake; a Sister Betty Barnes and husband Charlie of Clemmons: Grandchildren, Nick Swicegood, Colton Swicegood, Blake Donnelly, and Brooke Donnelly; Step Grandchildren, Madison Fisher and Peyton Fisher. Sister-in Law and husband, Gayle and Willie Davis of Churchland; Uncle Charley Frank Young of Churchland and several Nieces and Nephews. The family will see friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, April 25 at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel and other times at the residence on Clay Street. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Churchland Baptist Church 7516 NC Hwy # 150 S., Lexington, NC 27295
