November 17, 1943 — January 27, 2014

Jimmy Wilson Myers, age 70, of Garland Drive, Lexington passed away Monday afternoon at Forsyth Medical Center/Palliative Care Unit. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home-Hickory Tree Chapel with Rev. Charlie Riddle officiating. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Friday night. Born in Duncan OK, November 17, 1943 to Woodrow Wilson and Myrel Pierce Myers and moved to Winston Salem in 1945 his father’s hometown. He was a graduate of Hanes High School, worked at Archer Aluminum, retired from the Engineering Dept. of Stroh Brewery and worked partime for Golding Farms. He was a veteran of the US Army, a SGT 5th Class in the 11th and 13th Special forces (Green Berets). He loved beach trips, going camping, shag dancing and in his earlier years did sky diving, repelling from Grandfather Mountain and Hanging Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Kim and Angie Myers; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bobby and Sylvia Spangler; grandparents, Maude Pierce and Jim and Lizzy Myers. Surviving are his wife of 51 years; Edith Martin Myers; daughter, Julie Myers Bowers (Michael); granddaughter who they raised as their own, Casey Wolfe (Andy); grandchildren, Steven Johnson (Amanda), Miranda Bowers, twins, Elizabeth and Lindsey Bowers; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Chloe Wolfe, Zoey and Hayley Johnson; sister, Diane Mosely (Art) of Archer, Florida and their children, April, Eddie, Melody and David Mosely; very special nieces and nephews; David and Jackie Spangler, Kathy and Danny Riddle, Howard and Karen Spangler; very special great nephew, Charlie Riddle; great nephews, Butler Spangler and Jamie Sheppard; his two special feline companions, Miss Daisy and Iggy. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of the Palliative Care Unit, 8th floor of Forsyth Medical Center, Hospital Staff, special nurse Melinda and CNA Beverly, Radiology Dept. April; Dr. Eugene Paschold, Jennifer Williams, Dr. Charles Stinson and Staff; special friends, Bill and Judy Smith; childhood friends, Ronnie Martin wife Vivian, Johnny Burton, Jerry Baity; special nephews and nieces, David and Jackie Spangler, Kathy and Danny Riddle, Howard and Karen Spangler. They were always there for him and the family and for all the friends that came to the Spangler’s cookouts and friends of Hanes Diners that meet once a month.
