Mrs. Jo Doris Pickett Beck of Lexington, passed away at 100 on Thursday, May 23 at Piedmont Crossing, Thomasville NC. She was surrounded by her family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM Friday, June 14, 2024 at First United Methodist Church, 310 S. Main St. Lexington NC, by the Revs. Cheryl Skinner and Jill Alventosa-Brown. A private family burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
Mrs. Beck was born on June 19, 1923 in Lexington, NC to Willie (Bill) Ervin Pickett and Willie Mae Thomason Pickett. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1940 and Women’s College, UNC in 1942. She was employed by Mid-State Tile after college and retired in 1983 from Carolina Panel. In 1943 she married Louis Odell Beck and in 1945 they welcomed their loving son Larry. They were married 73 years until Mr. Beck’s death in 2015. It was a long and wonderful marriage.
Mrs. Beck was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Lexington and was involved in many aspects of her church and was a former Chairman of UMW Group 10 and Class President of Spruill Co-ed Class. She was also a member of the Altar Guild for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Odell Beck, her parents, her sisters, Betty Pickett Graves Rue and Billie Pickett Sink, her sister-in-law, Ruth Beck Hedrick, and her brothers-in-law, David E. Beck, Homer A. Sink, James H. Graves, Clarence A. Rue, and Harold Hedrick; and her grandson-in-law, Jeffrey P. Powell.
Left to cherish her beautiful memory is her son Lewis O. Beck (Larry) and daughter-in-law Mary Theresa Beck (Terri); her grandchildren, Julie Elizabeth Beck Powell of Kernersville, NC and Michael Lewis Beck (Julie Anne) of Carmel, IN; her great-grandchildren, Kelsey Potter, of San Tan Valley, AZ, Justin Michael Beck of Concord, CA, Matthew James Finnegan of Charlotte NC, Ryan James Beck, of Carmel IN, William Brian Finnegan, of Cummings, GA, and Morgan Theresa Jai Beck, of Carmel IN; her sister-in-law Jeanne Berrier Beck and many wonderful nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the First United Methodist Church Altar Guild, 310 S. Main St, Lexington NC 27292, are greatly appreciated.
We would like to thank Piedmont Crossing for her loving care over the last nine years in Independent Care, Assisted Living and Skilled Care. We will cherish all the nurses, CNA’s and staff who became her friend. Thank you. We also want to thank Hospice of Davidson County for their compassionate and loving care while she was in Skilled Nursing during the last three weeks.
