Joan Smith Fine, age 83 of Spruce Street, Lexington passed away Saturday morning May 23, 2015 at Hinkle Hospice House.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at St. Andrews Church with Rev. Michael Greer officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery, with committal given by Rev. Matt Smith and Rev. Matt Miller. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday night and at other times at the home of a daughter, Sandra Vaughn, Ponders Creek Road, Lexington.
Joan was born in Forsyth County June 6, 1931 to Wiley Alexander and Sophia Elizabeth Sofley Smith. She loved and was a charter member of St. Andrews Church, Sunday school teacher, women’s fellowship and former member of the Consistory; member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and a retired employee of Binning’s Building Products. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lola Grey Kirby and Sarah Mendenhall Hiatt; brothers, W.A. and Reynolds Smith.
Surviving are her daughters, Sandra Vaughn, Lynn Smith (Dan) and Libby Burns King (Steve) all of Lexington; son, Danny Fine (Beverly) of Lexington; grandchildren, Stephanie Hearn, Shelley Lane, Brandon Fine, Russell Smith and Blake Fine; great-grandchildren, Abi, Jacob and Wilson Hearn and Kenley Lane; sisters, Thelma Kennedy, Nancy Kiser and Sylvia Snyder all of Winston Salem; brother, Tom Smith
The family would like to thank mom’s special caregiver, Joanna Shore for her love and care given to our mother and her dear friend Margaret Biesecker, who has been there for love and support.
