Joan Dorer Mcgown

Joan Thelma Dorer McGown age 80 of Lexington, passed away Friday afternoon April 27th at Hinkle Hospice House of Davidson County. A funeral service will be held 11:00a.m. Tuesday May 1st at Oak Forest United Methodist Church, with Pastor Darren Alexander officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 Monday April 30, at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel. Joan was born on November 16th 1931, in Elmont, N.Y. to Joseph and Thelma Dorer. She married her high school sweetheart, Arthur McGown on October 16, 1949. They celebrated 62 years of marriage together last October. She was preceded in death by her parents. Joan was very dedicated to her family and was deeply loved by us all. We will miss her every day. Like her mother, Joan was very artistic and talented in many ways. She lived life to the fullest and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was known a “Glitzy Grandma” because of her personality and fashion style. She was an animal lover, especially of cats. Joan is survived by her husband Arthur James McGown of the home; daughter Bonnie Torres of Ringwood, NJ; son, James McGown and wife Rita of Midway; four grandchildren, Frank Torres III (Jennifer), Michael McGown, Julie Torres Janiak (Kevin) and Mary McGown Truell (Steven); six great-grandchildren, Amanda, Cheyenne, Eva, Cody, Ethan, and Logan.
