Joanna Thomas Gibby

Joanna Thomas Gibby, a lifelong resident of North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Lexington, NC, at the age of 93. Joanna was born on Thursday, February 4, 1932, to Carl Perry Thomas and Eva Elizabeth Thomas.

A devoted housewife, Joanna dedicated her life to her family and home. She was well-known in her community for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering support to those around her. Her kindness was felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Joanna had a profound love for her family and was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vaughn Everett Gibby, as well as her father, Carl Perry Thomas, and her mother, Eva Elizabeth Thomas, son Bobby Gibby, brothers, Wayne, David, and Ted Thomas, sisters Carlena Millagan, June Lindsay, and Julia Cromer.

Surviving are her sons, Don Gibby (Tammy), Gary Gibby, sister in-law Barbara Thomas and brother in-law, Harold Lindsay, 5 grandchildren, Bradley, Mathew, Jason (Tamara), Chris Gibby, Meredith Dixon (Logan), 3 great grandchildren, Nicole (Jacob), Abby, and Mallory.

Joanna's church was always close to her heart, with a special closeness to her quilting sisters and choir family.

A service for family and close friends will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 20, 2025, at Pilgrim Reformed Church to honor her memory, burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a charity of your choice in Joanna's name, continuing her legacy of helping others. Joanna will be deeply missed, but her warmth and spirit will live on in the hearts of family and friends forever.
