Joe Harris Coppley

Joe Coppley, 82, of Pine Ridge Road, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024 at his home.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at First Alliance Church with Pastor Paul Titus officiating services.

Mr. Coppley was born April 22, 1941 in Davidson County to Nellie Mae Everhart Coppley and Lewis Clarence Coppley.

Joe is survived by his wife Linda Kaye Coppley, of the home; two brothers Bennie Coppley and Jackson Coppley, two sons Jeffery Shane Coppley (deceased) and Terry Lee Coppley (Tiffany) of Concord, California and three grandchildren, Andrew, Joshua, and LeeAnn; and a daughter-in-law, Dana Coppley Ball.

He attended Welcome School and graduated from North Davidson High School and briefly attended East Carolina College. He then moved to Miami, Florida and worked at temp jobs in Miami for a few months before returning to North Carolina for Christmas 1960. He then joined the Air Force and trained as an jet mechanic. After tech school, he returned to North Carolina and married Linda Kaye Temple in June, 1961. Later he moved to South Carolina for first assignment and was involved in the Cuban Crisis and was awarded a unit citation. Following his return to South Carolina, he was transferred to Alaska and was joined by Linda some months later. Joe worked in maintenance part time in the apartments they lived in. Later he drove the Alcan from Anchorage to Great Falls, Montana the last week of 1964 to be discharged, then continued on from Great Falls to Lexington North Carolina. After returning to North Carolina he worked for RJR Foods, traveling to various food plants around the country. Joe then was transferred to California with the DelMonte merger in 1980, and then retired from DelMonte. He also worked for ABCO Labs for five years, then returned to North Carolina and worked for Walker Associates until retiring in 2004. Joe loved traveling and camping as he has driven in all 50 states and much of Canada.
