Joe Nelson Essick, Sr. 87, of Calvin Sowers Rd., Lexington died Tuesday, June 30, 2015 in Hinkle Hospice House.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Bethesda United Methodist Church with Rev. Danny Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 pm on Thursday at the church prior to the service, and other times at the home.
Mr. Essick was born May 15, 1928 in Davidson County to Fred Lee Essick and Zella Hinkle Essick. He was a retired employee of Parkdale Mills and a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. Joe was an Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Preceding him in death were his parents, a grandson, Bradley James Essick; three brothers, Holland Essick, Colin Essick, Ellis Essick and two sisters, Ruth Sink and Devera Everhart.
Surviving are his wife, Theola Jordan Essick of the home; a son, Joe Nelson Essick, Jr. of Cornelius; a daughter, Ellen Essick of Greensboro; one grandchild, Laura Hanfman (Chuck) of Lancaster, PA; a brother, Casper Reid Essick (Rebecca) of Lexington; three sisters, Willie Mae Medlin, Alma Lou Craver both of Lexington, Peggy Joyce Griffie of Charlotte.
