Joe Carl Hunter Sr.

Joe Carl Hunter, Sr., 72 of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Hunter was born April 18, 1935 in Davidson County to the late Edgar Hank Hunter and Martha Scott Hunter; “Maw and Paw Hunter” Mr. Hunter is survived by his wife Becky Hunter of the home; his children Dean Hunter and wife Linda, Joey Hunter and wife Pam, Sarah Hutchens and husband Eddie, Tonya Rhodes and husband David, Teresa Mullis and husband Jessee; his grandchildren, Brad Hutchens, Tyler Hutches, Derek Rhodes, Christine Rhodes, Hannah Rhodes, Brooke Anthony and husband Sinaca, Trey Hunter, Dustin McCullough, Lauryn Doub and husband Chris, Jaryd Mullins and fiancée Krystle; and great-grandchildren, Christian Doub, Amara Mullins, and Audrey Mullins; a sister Betty Buckingham and husband Harry; a sister-in-law Betty Guthrie and husband Roy; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by six brothers, Edgar Hunter, Frank Hunter, William Hunter, George Hunter, Homer Hunter, and Jack Hunter, and three sisters Helen Tilton, Lucille Williams, and Sarah Hunter. “Big Joe” was a devoted and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He touched many lives over the years through his work with Lay Witness Missions, and his memory will live forever in the hearts of his children, grandchildren and friends. His faith was an inspiration to all who knew him. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 12th, at Midway United Methodist Church where he was a member, with Rev. John C. Woods Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 9:00 pm Tuesday September 11th, at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel, and at other times at the home. The family would like to express their thanks to those who provided care, prayers and support during Joe’s illness.
