Joe Thomas Koonts

Joe Thomas Koonts, 78, loving husband of 51 years, died Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Hinkle Hospice House surrounded by his family. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 17, at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Bruce Morasco officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Mr. Koonts was born November 6, 1936, in Davidson County, to Haven Lester Koonts and Ada Athay Koonts. He was retired from Food Lion. Mr. Koonts was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed Western movies. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Grace Koonts Jenkins, Louise Koonts Leonard, and Mildred Ann Koonts Thompson; and a grandson, Kellen McClamrock. Surviving are his loving, caring wife, Brenda Mode Koonts of the home; son, Phillip Koonts of Lexington; daughters, Tammy Owens and husband Robert and Lisa McClamrock and wife Jessica, all of Lexington; grandchildren, Maggie Owens, Matthew Owens, Cooper McClamrock, and Grayson McClamrock; sister, Dorothy Tripp and husband Spencer of Lexington; and brothers, Jim Koonts, John Koonts, and Jerry Koonts, all of Lexington. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
