Joel Quimby Stutts, 89, of Homewood Lane, died Thursday, November 10, 2016, at his home. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, November 14, at Davidson Funeral Home, with Preacher Clyde Akers and Pastor Max Shoaf officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, November 13, and other times at the home. Mr. Stutts was born July 20, 1927, in Moore County, to Roy Stutts and Sally Buie Stutts. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and was Recreation Director of Laurinburg, Sanford and Lexington, where he retired with 44 years of service. He along with Harold Bowen was the voice of Lexington Yellow Jackets football for over 20 years. He received prestigious award for broadcasting sports for 50 years. He was an avid Duke fan going to all the games. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Sadler Stutts; daughter, Linda Stutts Black; and brother, Harrison Stutts. Surviving are his loving wife, Judith Marie Ellis Stutts of the home; sons, Paul Stutts and wife Cindy, David Stutts and Larry Junior Ellis and wife Angela, all of Lexington; daughter, Loriann Thompson of Lexington; grandchildren, Jacob Stutts, Nicholas Stutts, Jake Adkins, Hunter Ellis, Cory Brown, and Summer Ellis, Bill Bryan and wife Keisha; Great granddaughter Kendall Bryan; brother, Roy Stutts Jr. and wife Joyce of Vass; and sister-in-law, Ruth Stutts of Irvin, Texas.
