John Luther Barber, 74, of Weaver Drive, passed away, Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013, at First Reformed Church, where he was a member, with the Revs. Robin Keating, Walter Patten, Kelly Groce, and June Grubb officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Mr. Barber was born January 7, 1939, in Rowan County, to Harris and Edith Crook Barber. He was a retired certified public accountant and former member of Lexington Jaycees, Lexington School board and the Kiwanis club. He was also a volunteer for Contact of Davidson County and coached little league sports. At his church he was a Stephen’s Ministry leader.
Surviving are his loving wife, Bettie Washburn Barber of the home; daughters, Sara March Barber and companion, Erik Freeman of Winston-Salem, Katie Longest of Midlothian, Va., Betsy Pace and husband John of Winston-Salem; and son, Mark Owens and companion Amy Thomas; grandchildren, Charles and Sara Pace, Phillip and Dustin Longest, Mattie Strickland, and Courtney Waterman; sister, June Barber Craver of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews.
