John Clifton Bennett, age 91, died Friday May 1, 2015, at Carolina House of Lexington.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor J.C Miles and the Rev. Wayne Knight. Burial with military rites will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:30pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home.
Mr. Bennett was born February 4, 1924 in Dekalb County, Alabama to John Manning Bennett and Rachel Mallard Bennett. He was the retired owner and operator of John’s Radiator Shop and a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was also a member of Lexington Memorial Masonic Lodge #473, York Rite, Oasis Shrine Temple in Charlotte and American Legion Post #162. Mr. Bennett served his country in the United States Army as a TSGT and served in the European Theater during World War II under Generals George S. Patton and Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, James Bennett, Ernest Bennett, George Bennett, and Arnold Bennett; six sisters, Vestie Wilson, Mary Wigington, Lena Lance, Ann Adams, Emma Mae Evett and Inez Tippet.
Surviving are his wife Iris Osborne Wood Bennett, two sons; Gary Bennett and wife Vicky of Thomasville and Roger Bennett and wife Maria of Myrtle Beach SC; his sister, Louise Ware of Georgia, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
