John David “J.D.” Bruhn, Sr., 79, of Clemmons, passed away, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM, Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church with Father Cory Catron officiating. Burial will be held privately at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends in the narthex of the church from 11:30 AM – 12:15 PM, prior to the funeral service.
Born June 17, 1946, in New York, New York, he was the son of the late Henry H. Bruhn and Ruth Welch Bruhn.
He was raised in Carlsbad, New Mexico, where he attended school and graduated from Carlsbad Senior High School in 1965. He moved to Dallas, Texas, where he worked for ICX Freight Lines, until he joined the United States Navy in 1969. He spent seven years in the Navy, mainly aboard the USS John Adams, SSBN 620 (nuclear submarine). In 1975, he moved to Grand Junction, Colorado and worked for Rodeo Scoreboards as an electronics technician, travelling the country servicing electronic scoreboards at PRCA rodeos. In 1987, he moved to Clemmons, North Carolina, and started Special Event Production, Inc. The company continued to service electronic scoreboards for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, who provided scoreboards for various racing and PGA TOUR golf events. After RJ Reynolds left sports marketing, he continued to offer service to the PGA TOUR, Champions Tour, Nationwide Tour and many non-golf related events. The company entered the service of leasing and renting large scale LED video screens. J.D. retired in 2021, to spend more time with his beloved wife and family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Douglas, and her husband, Dugan Douglas.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Emileen “Emy” F. Bruhn; children, Bethany Olson (Larry) and John David Bruhn, Jr.; stepchildren, Kim Aldridge (Zachary) and Ty Bradford (Akiko); grandchildren, Lyla Olson, Lucy Olson, Charlie Olson, Ethan Aldridge, and Noah Aldridge; niece, Shawn Edgar (David); and nephew, Michael Armstrong (Debbie).
