John Bryce Burkhart

John Bryce Burkhart, 87, of Bowers Rd., Lexington passed awayTuesday, July 21, 2015 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Greer officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 pm prior to the service. Mr. Burkhart was born September 25, 1927 in Davidson County, to William Christopher Burkhart and Lillie Crotts Burkhart. He was a member of St. Andrews United Church of Christ, and a self employed Masonary Contractor and was President of B&B Masonry Co. He served in the US Army within the Signal Corp Division. Bryce was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was an avid hunter and loved fellowship with his hunting friends. Preceding him in death were three sisters and their husbands, Ruth Briggs (Colin), Gladys Briggs (Dermont), and Vera Young (Woodrow). Surviving are his wife, Modolan (Dodie) Penland Burkhart of the home; a son, Barry D. Burkhart (Linda); two daughters, Joanie B. Bunn (David) of Linwood, Lisa B. Deal (Ken) of China Grove; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; a brother, Claybern Burkhart (Maxine) of Lexington; two sisters, Theda Smith (Gene), Kitty Ann Green (Wendell) all of Lexington, and a brother-in-law, Wallace (Sonny) Penland.
