John Ellis Carpenter

April 24, 1945 — June 16, 2014

Surrounded by his loving family, John Carpenter passed away on June 16, 2014. He was born in Charlotte, NC attended schools in Concord and Lexington, NC, graduated from East Henderson High in Hendersonville, NC. He served four years in the US Marine Corps before joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1967. He served as a FBI agent in Charlotte and Fayetteville, NC, Phoenix, AZ, Los Angeles, CA, Washington, DC and Jackson, MS. After retiring from the FBI in 1996 he served as a Law Enforcement Officer with the State Gaming Commission where he later retired and resided in Winston Salem. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Richard Allen Carpenter and his parents, Rev. C.C. Carpenter and Helen Louise Carpenter. Survivors include his devoted children, Todd Carpenter (Mickey) of Winston Salem, NC, Joe Carpenter of Lexington, Terry Carpenter (Mary Jo) of Greenwood, SC and Megan Carpenter of Charlottesville, VA. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Carpenter (Peggy) of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Marilyn Berrier Green (Benny) of Morehead City, NC, Kay Byerley (Dwayne) of Lexington and Diane Faulkner of Winston Salem; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday at First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Wayne Knight officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Wednesday night. The family would like to thank the doctors and support staff at Wake Forest Baptist Health, Cancer Center and Hospice/Palliative Care for their excellent care.
