John Henry Gentle

John Henry Gentle, 89, of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at SECU Hospice House in Yadkinville.

A graveside service will be held 10 am Saturday at Forest Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Tim Wolfe officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree.

Mr. Gentle was born March 1, 1933, in Yadkin County to John Hix Gentle and Lessie May Myers Gentle. He was a member of the Church of God in Lexington and retired after 31 years of service as an assistant superintendent for the NC Department of Corrections. He was also a tour bus driver for Holiday Tours for over 30 years and loved it greatly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, John Randall Gentle of Winston Salem; four brothers, Fred Gentle, Albert Gentle, Walter Gentle, and Wayne Gentle; and three sisters, Daisy Medley, Ella Mae Ireland, and Mary Steelman.

Surviving is his wife, Carol Ann Warfford Gentle of the home; two sons, Darryl Mark Gentle (Shelly) of Lexington and Gregory Todd Gentle (La Chell) of Lexington; one sister, Rosalene Hall of Mocksville; nine grandchildren, Ryan (Erica), Taylor, Landon, Caleb, Gabriel, Rachael Ward (Trés), Hannah, Waylon, and Kelton; one great-grandchild, Brooks; one daughter in-law, Jennifer of Winston Salem; and one sister in-law, Betty of Mocksville.
