John Henry Gregg, age 54, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away on October 8, 2025.

A private and thoughtful soul, John was someone who chose his circle carefully—but for those fortunate enough to know him well, he was fiercely loyal, deeply sentimental, and never short on his trademark sarcastic wit.

Having a love for storytelling and imagination, John was a lifelong fan of science fiction and fantasy. He was a proud lover of Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and any universe where epic tales unfolded and complex characters came alive. An avid reader, there wasn't a single Stephen King novel he hadn't devoured. His well-worn NY Yankees hat was almost as iconic as his dry sense of humor, and he rarely went anywhere without it.

John had a quiet but unwavering love for his family. He is survived by his mother, Lois Leech; his son, Paul Marshall; and his sisters, Jane “Jeannie” Woods and Rachel Sigmon. He also leaves behind memories of days spent cheering on the New York Giants and Yankees, playing video games with friends, glasses of overly sweet iced tea, and conversations laced with just the right amount of sarcasm and warmth.

In keeping with John’s wishes, the family will be holding a private celebration of his life.
