John Wiley Harris, 73, of Farmbrooke Lane, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center, following a six week illness.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Lexington City Cemetery, with the Rev. Dwight Cartner officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Mr. Harris was born February 11, 1940, in Iredell County, to Henry Clay Harris and Sara Belle Kurfees Harris. He was retired from Piedmont Aviation and US Airways after 42 years of service and a member of Oak Forest Methodist Church. Mr. Harris was an avid antique car enthusiast having personally restored a 1972 Chevrolet pick up truck.
Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Martha Virginia Murray Harris of the home; daughter, Emily Marshall Harris of Hickory; son, David Claude Harris of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Dawson Harris and Abigail Harris; brother, Ronald Harris and wife Carol of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Bonzie Everson and husband Richard of Salisbury; several nieces and nephews as well as two dachshund companions, Chloe and Daisy.
