John B. Hayes, Jr.

December 1, 1942 — July 1, 2021

Mr. John Buford Hayes, Jr, 78, formerly of Hammond Road, died Thursday, July 1, at Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 10 at the Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside.

Mr. Hayes was born December, 1, 1942 in Elkin, NC to John Buford Hayes, Sr. and Myrtle Mathis Hayes. He attended from the age of 7 until graduation the NC School for the Deaf in Morganton NC, and played on the football team. He worked for Burlington House-Philpott Plant for over 20 years and Thomasville Furniture for 20 years and worked part time at the North Davidson Public Library. He is preceded in death by his wife, Janice Leonard Hayes who died February 4, 2019.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Julie Seibert and husband, John, of Raleigh; his son, Jason Hayes and wife, Anna, of Lexington: and his grandchildren, Candice Hayes Lusk and husband, Lynn, Coleman Hayes, Emerson Hayes, and Will Seibert. Also surviving are two sisters, Ann Aldridge of Morganton and Katie Hayes of Elkin and her husband, Bryan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to Davidson County Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, 8 Franklin Street, Lexington NC 27292 or to Piedmont Crossing, 100 Hedrick Drive, Thomasville, NC 27360.

The family would like to share its deepest gratitude for the excellent care provided by the staff at Piedmont Crossing for over 4 years.
