John Marvin Haywood age 88, of Waitman Road, passed away Saturday October 26, 2013 in Hinkle Hospice House after an illness of 5 weeks.
A funeral service will be 3:00 PM Tuesday October 29, at Reeds Baptist Church where he was a member, conducted by Reverend Henry Waterson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
The family will see friends from 1:30 to 2:30 PM at the church prior to the funeral, and other times at the home.
Marvin was born in Davidson County on June 19, 1925 to Jesse Haywood and Jess Parker Haywood. He was retired from Hill Oil Company. He was veteran of the US Army having served in WWII, and was a member of American Legion Post 8. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Doris Leonard Haywood; sons, Roger Haywood (Doris) and John Edward Haywood (Brenda) of Lexington; daughters, Sandy Perryman (Larry) and Debbie Lineberry (Tommy) of Lexington; grandchildren, Charles Perryman, Gina Sink, Jennifer Cavanaugh, Erica Haywood, Kim Borger, Heather Gilchrist and 4 step- grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Josiah, Matthew, Garrett, Brayden, Kinsley, Tanner and 8 step- great grandchildren.
The family has requested that any memorials be directed to Reeds Baptist Church, 180 Reeds Baptist Church Road, Lexington, NC 27295 or Hospice of Davidson County, 101 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
