John Richard Hench, Ii

September 22, 1946 — October 23, 2019

John Richard Hench II, 73, died peacefully at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, NC on October 23, 2019. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on October 28th at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Dr. Roger Weisner, with family visitation one hour before the service. Burial will follow at the Lexington City Cemetery.

John was born September 22, 1946 in Takoma Park, Maryland to John and Miriam Hench. He was a 1964 graduate of Spring Grove High School in Pennsylvania and a 1968 graduate of Newberry College in South Carolina. He served in Vietnam with the United States Army, as Specialist Fifth Class, in the 2nd Battalion, 40th Artillery, 199th Infantry. Unfortunately, his exposure to Agent Orange haunted his health throughout his life.

John, a Vice-President at C&S Bank, worked in Spartanburg and Columbia, SC. Later he was employed for 15 years at Central Carolina Bank in Durham, NC where he was head of their Compliance Department.

His interests included coaching, fishing, traveling, hockey, and birdwatching. In retirement, he enjoyed making assorted crafts including kiln-fired glass, jewelry, plaques and many holiday items.

John is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Judy Lewis Hench, of the home, his son Chad (Donna) of Lexington; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Emily, both of Raleigh; one brother, Dr. Tom Hench (Janice) of Kitts Hummock, Delaware; one sister, Suzanne Fabian (Dave Laber) of Helena, Montana; as well as loved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, and his special canine, Keisha.
