Jack Cline was born on Sunday, August 10, 1935, to Carl James “Pop” and Louise Hartley Cline in Statesville, North Carolina. After moving to the Welcome area, Jack graduated from North Davidson High School in 1953. Soon after his graduation, Jack made a trip to Detroit Michigan. The trip was made with the encouragement of friends who attended school with Jack, who were the cousins of the young lady he was to meet on that trip.  Upon Jacks arrival in Detroit, he met and was immediately smitten with Gloria Joyce Hyatt and after their courtship, on Saturday, August 28, 1954, he and Gloria were married. After his marriage, Jack attended the Wolverine School of Trades in Detroit Michigan where, in 1955, he became certified as an automobile mechanic. In 1958 and with a growing family, Jack and Gloria moved back to North Carolina. Once resettled, his passion for mechanics led him to becoming an automobile mechanic and later the owner of Cline Motor Company. Jack attended church at Spruce Street Baptist. Jack had many hobbies including trail riding motorcycles and any type of automotive racing. Off the pavement and dirt trails, Jack loved to put on his water skis and spend Sunday afternoons on High Rock Lake water skiing behind his Ski Nautique. To relax from his time working and to pass his time at work, Jack listened to his favorite gospel music. He had many favorites and most of them were on either old eight track tapes or cassette tapes.

Along with his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Leon Cline Sr. Left to remember and continue the legacy of Jack is his wife of 70 years, Gloria Hyatt Cline; son, Kenneth James Cline and his wife Jan; daughter, Gloria Caldwell; 5 grandchildren, Jess Caldwell, IV, and his wife Kate, Summer Suttles and husband Chris, Chandler Caldwell, Chase Caldwell, Rev.
