John Walter “J.W.” Reid, 72, a resident of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021in Forsyth Medical Center. J.W. was born in Davidson County on December 9, 1948 to the late Thomas Benbow and Vera Perryman Reid. He worked in Customer Service for Lexington State Bank and was also a radio DJ for WBFJ. On May 30, 1971 he married Theresa Ann Perryman. J.W. was a veteran of the US Army where he proudly served his country, also having served in Vietnam. He loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren. J.W. always had a smile on his face and was someone who never met a stranger. He loved to tell jokes and was loved by all who knew him. He was a member of Good Hope United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ronnie and Tommy Reid; and a sister, Anita Reid.
J.W. is survived by his wife of 50 years, Theresa Reid, of the home; son, Robert Reid and wife Shawna of Kannapolis; a daughter, Buffey Klein and husband Tim of Linwood; a brother, Barry Reid and wife Audrey of Lexington; a sister, Florence Johnson of Lexington; and three grandchildren, Nick and Ben Klein, and Haylee Reid.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 4, 2021 at 3:00 PM in Good Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Joseph Fulk officiating. The family will greet friends after the service in the church and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
