John Lee Kepley, age 79 of Becks Church Road, Lexington passed away Thursday night at High Point Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday at Second Reformed United Church of Christ where he was a member, with Rev. Dr. William B. Shrout officiating.
The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Saturday night and at other times at the home.
John was born in Davidson County, September 15, 1933 to Charlie Lee and Esther Hancock Kepley. He was the retired owner of Kepley Tile for 50 years; veteran of the US Army; at the church he was Elder Emeritus, former member and President of the Consistory, taught Junior and Senior class and former Superintendent of the church and was know as the “Candy Man”.
For 37 years he carried the chains at Central Davidson Football games, was very involved with sports at Central, was in the Spartan Hall of Fame and a Lifetime Spartan; and coached Little and Pony league baseball. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ellen Younts.
John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy Hayes Kepley; daughter, Julee Kepley Nunley (Kevin); sons, Mike Kepley (Sharon) and Charles Kepley (Karen); grandchildren, Kristi Kepley, Matt Kepley, Brad Kepley, Logan Kepley, Mason Kepley, Alex Nunley and Jack Nunley; step-grandchildren, Chad Beasley (Katie) and Rob Beasley; sisters, Violet Beck and Rachel K. Cox (Howard); brothers, Joe Kepley (Betty Grey) and Jack Kepley (Margie).
