John Lee Koonts, 84, of Lexington, passed away July 3, 2022, at Hinkle Hospice in Lexington.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am Friday July 8, 2022, at the Lexington City Cemetery, with the Rev. Edward Kelaher officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
Mr. Koonts was born October 3, 1937, in Davidson County, to Haven Lester Koonts and Ada Athay Koonts. He was retired from Conrad Hinkle where he worked in the Meat Department and having worked many years with City BBQ. He grew up as a child attending Trinity United Methodist Church, but in his adult life he was baptized and attended Grace Episcopal Church. At Grace he loved to volunteer and helping do whatever needed done in the church. John was a person who never met a stranger and will be missed by all. He was a devoted Atlanta Braves fan and loved to watch western movies. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Golding Koonts who died July 3, 1996, his brothers, Jim and Joe Koonts, sisters, Grace Koonts Jenkins and Louise Koonts Leonard, and Mildred Ann Koonts Thompson.
Left to cherish his memorials are his brother, Jerry Koonts of Lexington, sister, Dorothy Koonts Tripp, of Lexington, and many nieces and nephews.
