John Franklin Parnell, age 91 of Hannah Ferry Rd., died Wednesday at his home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, at Tyro United Methodist Church with Rev. Max Shoaf officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
Mr. Parnell was born October 19, 1916 in Davidson County to George Oscar Parnell and Sallie Farabee Parnell. A self employed farmer, he was a member of Tyro United Methodist Church, a member of the Cattlemen’s Association and was a ASCS Community Committeeman. He was also a member of the Churchland Volunteer Firemen. Mr. Parnell served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Kathey Parnell, a brother, Terry Wiseman Parnell that was killed in the Philippine Islands, a sister-in-law, Ellen Parnell and a brother-in-law, Otis Phillips.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Jean Wilson Parnell of the home, a son, Terry Parnell of Churchland, daughters, Nancy Swicegood and husband Tony, Amy Freeman and husband, Tim all of Churchland, seven grandchildren, Craig Swicegood and wife, Kate, Michael Swicegood and wife, Melissa, Joey Freeman, Justin Freeman, Johnna Lanning and husband, Dennis, Amber Warren and husband, Micah, BreeAnn Parnell, and a great grandson, Samuel Cole Warren.
Also surviving are a brother, Fred Douglas (Doug) Parnell of Lexington and sisters, Carolyn Phillips and Sarah Philpot and husband, Larry.
The family will receive friends and family from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Saturday at DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME and other times at the home. Memorials may be directed to the charity of Donor’s choice.
