John Robbins

July 18, 1924 — January 14, 2009

John R. Robbins, age 84 of Owens Rd., Lexington died Wednesday in Alston Brook Nursing Home after one year of declining health. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at First Reformed United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with Rev. Dr. Walter Patten and Dr. Lee Jessup officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Robbins was born July 18, 1924, in Volusia County, Fla., to Joseph Robbins and Lola Kistler Robbins. He attended the University of Illinois; retired from the U.S. Air Force having served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and also in Vietnam; he was also a retired conductor from CSX Railroad. Mr. Robbins was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Hunter Robbins; sons, Richard Robbins of Atlanta, Ga., Kenneth R. Robbins and wife, Elizabeth, of Gainesville, Ga., and Craig P. Coe and wife, Donna, of Lexington; a daughter, Cherryl Jo Robbins of Gainesville, Ga.; and four grandchildren, Laurie Ann Harvey and husband, Jamie, Isabella R. Robbins, Olivia Robbins, and William R. Robbins. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home, one hour prior to the service on Friday in the church parlor, and other times at the home of Pat Karnes at 1286 Owens Road.
